I first saw this Tyago Almario painting in a gallery in Quezon City, Metro Manila almost 2 years ago. I thought it was a huge photograph until the artist himself corrected me. It was an unfinished painting that time. In this painting is the artist’s grandfather mourning the loss of his beloved wife. The artist recalled to me the day of his grandmother’s burial. His grandfather was desperately trying to cover his pain, sadness and regret in the guise of strength and pride. It’s a remarkable painting that every one should see. I still can’t forget this painting until this very day. Hauntingly beautiful. “The Widower” by Tyago Almario
